Back to School Blues

Back to School Blues

Only a month or so ago, the summer holidays stretched in front of us, seemingly endless.  Now, all of a sudden, it’s time to start checking that holiday homework, find those pencil cases, and dig out the school uniform.  Some children look forward to going back to the school routine and seeing all their friends again.  Others are not so keen and some – no longer children, of course – are off on the adventure of their lives to university.

Change can be challenging and sometimes youngsters can benefit from help with starting a new school, moving up a year, or starting university away from home in a strange city for the first time.  Bach Flower Remedies are a wonderful way of calming fears and uncertainties.  Gentle, natural, and very similar to homoeopathy, these remedies are safe for everyone, including children.  In liquid form, taken as drops onto the tongue or in drinks, Bach Flower Remedies help to gently rebalance troublesome emotions or feelings.  The remedies are available from some health stores and supermarkets (although these stores don’t stock the full range of 38 remedies), so you may well be able to make up your own mixture.  Contact Caroline if you would like to have a mix made specially for you.

What remedies might help to make the transition back to school much easier?  Well, each person needs to identify the feelings that are affecting them, but here are some suggestions:

General anxiety and feelings of foreboding:  Aspen
Fear of a particular thing (eg the bus journey, getting lost in a new school):  Mimulus
Constantly worrying over something, repetitive thoughts:  White Chestnut
Inner tension and fears hidden from other people:  Agrimony
Coping with change; vulnerability and loss of self confidence due to not having “found your feet”:  Walnut
Unsure of your capabilities to face and overcome a challenge, inclined to give up:  Gentian
That “Monday morning feeling” for someone who just can’t dredge up the enthusiasm to do routine chores and tasks (we all know that one!)Hornbeam

Have a great start to the autumn and the school year.  Christmas is coming!!
